Talitha has been a professional educator in some capacity for over a decade and a half. Serving as a principal, curriculum developer, and now as an educational consultant and homeschooling parent, empowering through education has been a personal passion. Her culturally-sound, holistic curriculum, Raising Imhotep Scholars of Excellence (RISE), incorporates healing practices for children to develop them in every aspect. She began the Black Girl Speaks (BGS) Movement with a one-woman show while teaching middle school Language Arts to promote the power of healing by SPEAKing of our traumas in November of 2005, and has since launched a global community of Black Girls (and women) who use their voices to heal themselves and each other. What is Black Girl Speaks?
The Black Girl Speaks (BGS) Movement is under the parent company of BGS Productions, Inc. and was founded in 2005 to empower Black Girls and women to use their varied voices to SPEAK their own healing. It began as a one-woman show and has since expanded to include enrichment workshops for adults & adolescents, full-casted theatrical productions, cultural diversity & sensitivity trainings, racial reconciliation workshops, and a membership-based virtual support group specifically for Black Girls and women globally. Along with allies, supporters, and partners, BGS offers community-oriented programs and initiatives to fulfill its mission to heal ourselves and our community through the arts, education, a focus on total wellness, and financial empowerment.
